Forrester: Daptiv Total Economic Impact Study

In October 2008, Daptiv worked with Forrester Consulting to understand the ROI of Daptiv PPM. The purpose of the this study is to provide readers with a framework to evaluate the potential impact of Daptiv PPM on their organizations.

Given the increasing sophistication that enterprises have regarding cost analyses related to IT investments including business applications, Forrester's TEI methodology serves an extremely useful purpose by providing a complete picture of the total economic impact of purchase decisions.

Partner Spotlight: CIANS

What’s your professional background?

I studied at the University of Karlsruhe Industrial Engineering and since 1992, I have been active in the German Project Management Software market. I have introduced several products into the German market, such as TimeLine for Windows, Intelligent Planner, and PlanView Software and now we are a partner of Daptiv. I am real modern “veteran” in this market and I love what I am doing. I have worked as consultant in the 90’s and I helped companies to increase their productivity and to run effective project management offices. Today I am mostly involved in the solution design and sales phase.

What interested you in working with Daptiv?

Daptiv is a really innovative, offering an excellent product that focuses on one of the best solutions for the today´s PPM challenges and also for the requirements for the coming years. Daptiv understands the SaaS business and with its management team, has an excellent pool of knowledge. Daptiv´s consultants are capable to deliver and to implement the next Generation of business software solutions, which is extremely important for the market. It is not only a concept; it is a solution that works and that is proven by / with more than 800 customers. Daptiv is also a market and innovation driver for the coming SaaS 2.0 age. It is great being a part of the success story and I know that Daptiv is setting a new bar in this software and solution segment. I can sleep better now, because I know that I have sold my clients the best available solution.

You’re based out of Karlsruhe, Germany – what’s the market like in Germany for collaborative business software?

In Germany we do not have this kind of sophisticated and innovative collaborative business software, neither a German product nor one from outside Germany.  We have several products that have functions like Daptiv, but not one product that offers the integrated and collaborative approach as Daptiv. This means that Daptiv´s offering is unique. It is new to the German market and the response from the German speaking market is great. It proves that we have a real market for this type of solution and the attention is there. Because Daptiv is new to the German market, we have to show them that Daptiv delivers on what really what they need. The biggest challenge is that we have to show that Daptiv works and that it is reliable solution. The feedback from the people who have seen Daptiv  has been great.  One of the most common comments is: “I like the product very much and I have never seen such a great integrated product before.” So the German market is ready for Daptiv and welcomes the company and product.

What are the most common business issues and pain points your customers face?

The market is aching for a solution that offers the capability to collect, structure and maintain information from single sources like Excel, MS Project, SAP, Word and other sources. The managers are looking for a solution that helps them to access fast and accurate information that they need for their projects and daily work. The managers do not want to lose the control over their information and the documents that they generate every day. They want to feel safe and secure about what is going on in their projects and activities. So the most important issue is to have control over the information and the pain is that they lose time and energy to collect, evaluate and prepare the information for their management team to review and to make critical decisions.

What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

My job is really great because I have contact with new people from different types of companies and from different industries. Every contact has a different way of managing their projects and daily work. I love to work with these prospects because every day, we learn how Daptiv can solve the business needs of these companies in different ways. The solution design is fascinating and I am very much impressed with how flexible Daptiv is and how we can automate processes inside Daptiv. This is great because we are adapting the process within Daptiv without forcing the companies to adapt or limit their organization to the function of the software. So it is like playing soccer, you can always score because each customer achieves the solution they seek and the result is completely satisfying.

Daptiv Employee Spotlight: Monica Gordon

Monica Gordon, Marketing Communications Manager

I’m a true Pacific Northwesterner! I grew up in Bellevue (known as the ‘Eastside’ to Seattleites) and, following my family tradition, I studied at the University of Washington. Upon graduating UW with a degree in English with an emphasis on writing, I started working for an online curriculum company. I edited online courses and marketed to private and public schools, focusing on Advanced Placement (AP) courses. I then threw myself in the trenches of the marketing department for a company that creates custom online government contract reports and built their first customer evidence program. I also created newsletters, quarterly campaigns, user guides, microsites, and other marketing content as needed.

Then I heard about an opportunity to work for Daptiv and I was intrigued - I know exactly what it’s like to depend on MS-Excel spreadsheets and how painful it can be to manage projects that way. I remember how difficult it can be to manage day to day work when collaboration isn’t easy (if not impossible) without the right solution and I understood how Daptiv would be helpful to many businesses facing challenges similar to the ones I had experienced.

I have been working at Daptiv for one year now-- managing diverse initiatives such as social media campaigns, developing and telling customer stories, and providing ongoing content to daptiv.com. I use Daptiv PPM every day to manage my workflow and to collaborate with other individuals within Daptiv; I even work with vendors via a collaborative workspace using Daptiv PPM so I really try to take advantage of our software solution. I look forward to seeing Daptiv grow and it’s very rewarding to be a part of the momentum. I appreciate how dedicated everyone is at Daptiv – there’s so much commitment to making the company a success and it fosters such a positive work environment.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, running, riding my Vespa, and canoeing by the arboretum near UW (when it’s sunny out!). But one thing I love doing more than anything is traveling, especially internationally. I visited Argentina around this time last year with my husband, and it was amazing… especially Patagonia’s glaciers.

Reminder: Sunset of Legacy Reporting Engine

Sunset of Legacy Reporting Engine

As we recently communicated to Daptiv PPM administrators, in mid-year 2009, the Advanced Reporting Engine (ARE), our legacy reporting engine based on Crystal Reports, is being discontinued in Daptiv PPM. (Note: this should not be confused with the Daptiv Advanced Report Builder which is a tool replacing ARE, and which is not being sunset.)

We recommend that customers who have not yet transitioned to Daptiv Work Intelligence begin to make that transition, which may include:

• Obtaining Daptiv Report Builder and/or Daptiv Advanced Report Builder subscriptions for your enterprise

• Obtaining training or coaching packages for these new tools if you have not already done so

• Creating new reports to replace ARE reports in use your enterprise

• Ordering replacement reports from Daptiv (order by December 31, 2008 to receive discounted rates)

Please contact Daptiv Account Management for further details.

Daptiv Tips & Tricks

New Gannt Chart:

- Try “painting” a new task by clicking and dragging anywhere in the chart below the existing Tasks.

- Create different types of dependencies by clicking and dragging to the appropriate location between the tasks. For example, to create a S/S dependency, click in the front half of the predecessor and drag to the front half of the successor.

- Use the Zoom to Fit option to automatically scale the Gantt Chart zoom to show all Tasks in the chart area – no more scrolling back and forth to find your tasks.

New Language and Culture Settings:

-Now you can work with Daptiv PPM in a different language other than English!

-Toward the top right of your dashboard, you will see your name. Click there and a dropdown menu will appear.

- Select 'Edit User Settings' and you will see a 'Culture Settings' option with a red asterisk. Select the culture/language you prefer and hit 'save'.

New notification settings:

- Enable a daily or weekly digest email to receive a summary of your notifications rather than individual emails. Notifications still arrive as soon as they are created inside the application, but the digest allows you to view and act on them at a time more convenient for you.

- Going on vacation? Temporarily suspend your email notifications to prevent notification clutter while you’re out. The notifications will still be waiting for you when you log into Daptiv on your return.
