Recap of Daptiv at SaasCon 2009

Daptiv participated in SaaSCon 2009 March 31- April 1 in Santa Clara, CA. SaaSCon is hosted by Computerworld and is focused on helping people gain a better understanding of cloud computing, how to build SaaS applications and solutions, best practices, and the business benefits of using an On-demand solution. Daptiv was a Gold Sponsor of SaaSCon which was attended by four members of the Daptiv team; Robyn Baron – Enterprise Account Executive, Tim Low – VP of Marketing, Stephen Ratzlaff – Director of Channel Partners, and Melody Tomlinson – Online Marketing Manager. This event was a great opportunity for Daptiv to connect with attendees who were interested in using SaaS applications and solutions to solve business challenges within their organizations as well as other software manufacturers who are looking to introduce a SaaS offering of their product. SaaSCon was a refreshing event that proved that the buzz about SaaS is growing and the future of cloud computing is still very much a work in progress.

Other companies in attendance included: At&t, Akamai, Dell, Fiberlink, HP, Pervasive, and Rackspace Hosting.

Daptiv Spotlight: MyTConsulting France

Daptiv is pleased to be working with MyT Consulting based in Paris, to develop Daptiv’s presence in the European Market. Meet Thomas Chauchard of MyT Consulting, Director of Daptiv Business Development for Daptiv in Europe.

What’s your professional background and your experience in working in the PPM arena?

As director of business development for Daptiv in Europe, I’m focused on building Daptiv’s partner ecosystem to serve the training, implementation and consulting needs of organizations headquartered here in Europe, and also on providing a local contact for Daptiv customers. I’m enthusiastic about Daptiv as the leading on-demand provider of collaborative project portfolio management solutions.

I have more than 20 years of sales and operations management experience in the IT industry. As a Senior Vice President at Planview for the past several years, I was responsible for driving profitable growth and ongoing international business expansion throughout Europe and Asia Pacific

Prior to Planview, I was Executive Vice President of Business Development for Smartner, focusing on Europe and APAC, and served as Managing Director of iPIN (now Valista) for the EMEA region with offices in Paris, London and Munich. Prior to this I held senior management positions with Niku Corporation (now CA Clarity), ABT Corporation, and T.MIS. I hold a Master's degree in Business from Toulouse Business School in France and Bachelor’s degree Finance, with distinction, from Trent University in Nottingham, UK. I reside in Paris, France. I can be reached at tchauchard@daptiv.com or at tchauchard@myt-consulting.com

How did you hear about Daptiv? What interested you in working with Daptiv?

It is a combination of personal interest in this particular market place and the strong and increasing presence of Daptiv in the Gartner leaders quadrant! Tim Low, Daptiv’s Vice President of Marketing, and I had worked together previously at Niku, and he was also a driver in helping me better know about Daptiv and its offerings.

What’s the market like in Continental Europe for collaborative business software?

Market is really significant there and should represent for EMEA around 35% to 40% of Daptiv’s yearly revenue in 4 to 5 years. This combined with the increasing interest around the SaaS model makes Daptiv an undeniable opportunity for sustainable growth and great success.

What are the most common business issues and pain points your customers face?

Time to market, increasing shareholder value by aligning company strategic goals with IT and R&D departments. Team collaboration around PPM methodology is also a great story right now. The PMO (and ePMO) concepts are pretty hot and out of yearly 3 major targets CEO have right now, one is always company governance which includes alignment of resources (finance, human, assets) to strategic goals of the company.

Can you tell us about a few of the European companies you’ve been working with?

ATOS is a very interesting story as we have been working on a deal where they have decided to include Daptiv in their proposals to the French public sector within their « modernization » practice. La Poste is a significant name as well, a deal closed by one of Daptiv’s local partners: Run My Process. La Poste is using Daptiv as an alignment tool to make sure they keep good track on their most significant initiatives held in their different IT departments. Information is driven up to their overall IT management team using Daptiv as their PMO solution.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

My hobby is clearly golf. I play at Saint-Cloud Golf & Country Club in Saint-Cloud. I play for one of their teams. I have attached some photos : one is a photo with my three boys (they are now 20, 16 and a little one who is 6 and a half). My wife, Laurence, is a lawyer and notaire.

Products Update: Spring '09 is Live!

henry gantt

Thank You, Henry.

Henry Gantt’s (1861-1919) vision for managing work led to the graphical schedules that bear his name: Gantt charts today help managers and team members to plan, control and track work to get work done on time and under budget. Having launched the first online Gantt chart for PPM in 2002, Daptiv releases a better, faster and more complete Gantt chart with Daptiv PPM Spring ’09.

New in the Gantt

Previously in Beta, the new Daptiv PPM Gantt chart adds additional features to make it easier for project managers to create and manage schedules: A new Resource Utilization Details window lets you see daily utilization of all project resources, and make assignment decisions based on their availability over time Copy and paste tasks within a schedule (preserving dependencies) lets you build out project schedules more quickly.

Gantt Improvements

“The speedy new Gantt chart is changing the way we work. We create project schedules directly in Daptiv PPM without relying on external project tools.” Andrew Gross, Senior Project Manager, Technology Operations PMO, Kaplan Test Prep

The updated UI includes a canvas that lets you “paint” news tasks, change/move tasks and create dependencies via click-and-drag, and drag and drop resources to assign to tasks. New pre-defined and text-entry filters to make it easier to work with large project schedules.

More for Administrators

New quick filters on Project Lists make it easier to administer projects.

daptiv iso
With the launch of Spring ’09, Daptiv announces its new ISO 270001:2005 certification – meaning that Daptiv fulfills the international standard’s requirements of operating an Information Security Management System (ISMS) – more confirmation that Daptiv has the systems and processes in place to protect its customers’ data.

Daptiv Employee Spotlight: Brendan Dearie

Brendan Dearie, Sales Account Manager

I have lived here in Washington for the last 16 years after moving out here from New Hampshire. I consider myself bi-coastal but really have a soft spot for New England. I was born in Isfahan, Iran and after that lived all over the world. I graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Public Relations. I had a really tough time getting started on my career, mainly because it was 2001 and things were tough, almost as tough as they are now. My first real job after college was working for Alaska Airlines at both the main ticket counter and the terminal gates, that was definitely an interesting time.

I have been at Daptiv for almost 2 and a half years and have been account manager, hr administrator, and events coordinator during my time here. Right now I handle accounts on the West Coast including Alaska and Hawaii. I really enjoy working here and like the fact that I get to help our customers.

When I am not here at Daptiv, I spend most of my time with my wife Kim and our miniature schnauzer puppy Gretchen. We do a lot of camping, long drives, and snow sports, but most of the time just like to chill at home and relax.

Daptiv Tips and Tricks: RSS Feeds and Bulk Editing

1. Did you know that you can “RSS” just about any data feed from Daptiv PPM to your MyYahoo or iGoogle page, or your favorite RSS Reader? Look for the RSS icon at the bottom of the page.

2. If you are interested in Bulk Editing or Bulk Update of profile or status fields, try this technique:

The person making the changes (usually the admin) will need to use the Executive tab to make these updates. Use a view showing all the projects you wish to update and start by editing the first project profile or status. As long as you are in this environment, you have the ability to edit, save, and then click on Next Project on the gray bar. This allows you to go through your complete portfolio while making updates very quickly.

Daptiv Customer Spotlight: John Muir Health

John Muir Health Uses Daptiv Connect™ to Integrate Issue Tracking Tool with Daptiv PPM

John Muir Health is among the Bay Area’s most advanced and comprehensive resources for medical care, with two medical centers and the John Muir Behavioral Health Center, as well as the John Muir Physician Network and many remote facilities and services. Areas of specialty for John Muir Health include high- and low-risk obstetrics, orthopedics, neurosciences, cardiac and cancer care as well as general and advanced endoscopic and robotic surgery. John Muir Health emphasizes a commitment to advanced technologies as well as outstanding patient care. The organization also offers extensive community education and outreach programs, and is dedicated to improving the health of the communities it serves.

Organization Need for Daptiv PPM

John Muir realized that their PMO would need a tool to view interrelated project tasks on a new program. “The migration and standardization of the Concord and Walnut Creek Campuses and the underlying projects that go with that program are the most immediate drivers in the need for a tool,” says Rebecca Byrd, Project Manager III. “We looked into Daptiv PPM along with MS Project Portfolio since we already owned the Microsoft Desktop tool, but Daptiv PPM was chosen because it fit our business needs more closely.”

Currently, John Muir Health’s new PMO has started using Daptiv PPM, but “our Physician Network within John Muir Health is inquiring about using Daptiv PPM as well,” says Byrd. Right now, dashboard functionality is particularly valuable to Program Managers and Resource Managers. “A quick look at Daptiv PPM’s dashboard lets our managers know where resources might be over-allocated so in the future they can quickly make proper scheduling adjustments,” says Byrd.

In addition to dashboard reporting, John Muir Health also takes advantage of Daptiv Dynamic Applications™. “We use Daptiv Dynamic Applications for status reporting and to review updated tasks,” says Byrd. “Daptiv Dynamic Applications will be a huge value-add for our Project Managers, helping to facilitate better communication regarding the status of projects.”

Need for Integrated Issue Tracking Information

In addition to Daptiv PPM, John Muir Health had been using an application that helps track and manage IT-specific project issues. All IT employees are required to log project issues into the tool and those issues can be raised to the CIO level. John Muir Health needed the ability to show issues within Daptiv PPM to avoid duplicate work for the project managers and to develop high level issue reports using Daptiv Work Intelligence™.

Solution

John Muir Health decided to use Daptiv’s innovative, on-demand integration service™, Daptiv Connect™, to bring data from their bug tracking system to the Daptiv PPM environment. John Muir Health met with Daptiv on the plan to sync issues with Daptiv PPM, which involved the following steps:

• Requirements Gathering
• Design Daptiv Connect
• Create integration with Daptiv Connect mapping tools
• Testing
• Customer Approval
• Daptiv Connect in Production

Daptiv Connect Details:

• Issue tracking tool includes a web services API that allows data to integrate with Daptiv PPM
• A Dynamic application was created to store issue data in the Daptiv data model
• Daptiv Connect syncs the data from issue tracking tool to Daptiv PPM every 10 minutes
• The integration is designed to add new records, and update existing records in Daptiv PPM
• Project issues are mapped to the corresponding project in Daptiv PPM
• Bug data is available in Daptiv PPM for reporting and analysis using Daptiv Work Intelligence™

“We had a really good experience with Daptiv Connect and our implementation was designed and delivered as expected within two months,” says Byrd. “Our Daptiv Consultant did an excellent job in clarifying our implementation plan, purpose and setting meeting agendas and requirements of what the interface should do along with the design documentation. Everyone was on the same page and throughout the whole process, there was good communication and we were all kept in the loop.”

Value

“Daptiv PPM along with Daptiv Connect has allowed us to centralize all of our project data in one place, and that’s incredibly valuable to us,” says Byrd. “That means that our project managers avoid duplicate work in the issue tracking tool and Daptiv PPM, increasing executive visibility into issues that are generated from our Work Intelligence status reports.”

Creation of the Issue in Issue Tracking tool Results in this view in Daptiv:

“We’d absolutely recommend Daptiv Connect to any other company thinking about integrating Daptiv PPM with other onsite or on-demand applications. We’re very happy with the outcome of our integration,” says Byrd.
